Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon has declared that Snapdragon X chips will extend their reach to PCs next year, with price tags as low as $700, as reported by The Verge. This indicates a substantial price reduction of nearly $300, considering that the current least expensive Snapdragon X PCs are the $999 Surface Laptop 7 and Dell Inspiron 14 Plus.
However, Amon did not clarify whether these ultra-affordable PCs would be laptops. The possibilities also include tablet PCs and desktops. Qualcomm has already initiated its foray into the mini-PC market with its $799 desktop developer kit. While this product is targeted at developers eager to experiment with Windows on Arm, if a consumer version is produced at a comparable price, it could pose competition to products such as the Mac mini.
The price announcement was made during the company’s third quarter earnings call. But if you are curious about the current sales performance of Snapdragon laptops, no specific figures have been disclosed yet. Since the quarter ended on June 23, merely a couple of weeks after the first Copilot+ PCs were launched, the company stated that it is too early to provide an assessment.
Nevertheless, Amon did mention that some Snapdragon X PCs have already sold out. There are additional indications of success as well, such as the fact that 6.5% of Geekbench 6 benchmarks in the past month were conducted on Snapdragon X PCs.
The CEO also affirmed that the company is “already collaborating with [manufacturers] on the next wave of Copilot+ PCs,” although there is no information regarding when that wave will arrive.
There will also be new Qualcomm-powered PCs showcased at IFA in September, and a Qualcomm custom CPU will be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit in October. The momentum has been robust for these initial couple of months for the Snapdragon X PCs, and it shows no signs of abating anytime soon.
