Intel’s highly anticipated Lunar Lake CPUs seem to be experiencing a delay, at least according to a report from DigiTimes. This news source that covers semiconductor affairs claims that the shipments of these chips are set to arrive in September, whereas they were originally planned for June. However, Intel disputes this.
When Intel initially announced Lunar Lake, it stated that they would become available between July and September of this year. More precisely, the company specified that they would be available before the holiday shopping season. If June was the original plan, we would already have a wealth of detailed information about the processors. It appears that September was the intended target all along.

I reached out to Intel, and it said, “Confirming Lunar Lake will be available starting in Q3 ’24 as noted at Computex – right in time for the holiday shopping season.”

Although Lunar Lake is not experiencing a delay, the processors are still arriving later than options from Qualcomm and AMD. Lunar Lake is Intel’s attempt to introduce new Copilot+ PCs, but they will be the last to make an appearance. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip is already available in laptops, and AMD has stated that its Ryzen AI 300 CPUs will be available in July. Intel has not officially commented on Lunar Lake arriving in September, but this is the current speculation regarding when they will arrive.

Given that the processors are set to arrive in Q3 – between July and September – it seems highly unlikely that they will be available next month. Although Intel has provided detailed information about the “radical low-power architecture” that is Lunar Lake, we have no specific specifications for the chips. We don’t even know the most basic model number.
Intel has shared some vague performance comparisons with the Snapdragon X Elite and AMD’s previous-generation CPUs. However, we are likely to learn much more about these processors and the performance they will offer as we draw closer to the launch. One crucial detail that Intel has yet to disclose is the power consumption, which will be an important factor to consider in comparison to the efficiency offered by the new Snapdragon X Elite.

Although we don’t have many specific details about Lunar Lake yet, we have already witnessed some devices that will utilize this new generation of chips. For example, MSI is launching a new version of its Claw handheld with a Lunar Lake CPU.
