The Windows transition to Arm has been progressing at an astonishing rate, with numerous crucial apps having already developed Arm64 versions. However, there has been one notable holdout, even up until Microsoft’s recent Copilot+ announcement. That app is none other than Slack.

But now, great news! Slack has finally decided to release a native Arm64 client.

“Slack is Windows on Arm ready!🥳” reads a tweet. “Available now in beta, the ARM64 version of @SlackHQ allows you to optimize performance on Arm-based hardware. This presents the opportunity for new AI experiences to run efficiently on Windows on Arm devices.” More details can be found at https://t.co/sugPixYOLr, along with a tweet stating, “And — Arm (@Arm) June 11, 2024.”

While the advancements in emulation in this new generation seem impressive, when it comes to Slack, which is an important communication and productivity app that people rely on daily for their work, the absence of a native version was surely bothersome. It is hoped that the native version will deliver top-notch performance, making the transition to Arm seamless. And currently, the beta is available for anyone with a Windows on Arm device to try out.

The catalyst that ultimately spurred Slack and many others into action is the upcoming Copilot+ range of Windows on Arm products, which is set to initiate the “true” Windows transition to Arm. With a plethora of native apps lined up and new emulation software promising efficient performance, things are expected to go much more smoothly this time around.

That being said, there haven’t been without hiccups. One of the main AI features of the Copilot+ PCs, Recall, has been delayed due to security concerns. But AI hype is not everything, and most people will be excited about these Windows on Arm laptops as they will offer almost double the battery life compared to the x64 and x86 versions. And now all those Slack enthusiasts can freely convert to Arm and enjoy those benefits as well.
