Create a custom GPT

From now on, the majority of the time when you interact with ChatGPT, you’ll be using a custom GPT model that you or someone else has crafted. Here’s how to get started with your own creation:

Step 1: Navigate to the ChatGPT website or open the ChatGPT app and log in to your account.

Step 2: Locate the “Create a GPT” button at the top of the page and click on it.

Step 3: Give your Custom GPT a unique name, a descriptive description, and specify its custom instructions. Think of these instructions as the guiding principles that will shape the behavior of your custom GPT, similar to the prompts you’ve been giving ChatGPT in the past, but with a more personalized touch. Use the preview window on the right-hand side to get a glimpse of how the AI will look and perform. You can provide it with a prompt to see how it responds, and then adjust the instructions on the left to tweak its functionality until you’re satisfied with the outcome.

Step 4: You can also add specific data that the AI can draw upon, such as documents or files. Do this and observe how it affects the way the AI operates. You may need to adjust the instructions after granting it access to the data.

Step 5: You can also customize the potential functions of the AI. Select whether you want it to have DALL-E art generation capabilities, access to a search engine, or enhanced data analytics. You can also choose which plugins it has access to, if any. This gives you the flexibility to tailor the AI’s capabilities to your specific needs.

Step 6: Once you’re happy with the way your new custom GPT operates, select the green “Publish” or “Update” button to finalize the process. Your custom GPT will then be available in the left-hand menu, along with the OpenAI GPTs and any other creations you’ve made.

How to share your custom GPT

One of the most exciting aspects of the new custom GPT creations is the ability to share them with others. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Create a new custom GPT as described above, or select the three-dot menu next to your existing custom GPT and choose the edit function.

Step 2: Make any changes you desire to your custom GPT, but instead of immediately selecting the green “Update” buttons, select the three-dot menu icon next to it first.

Step 3: From the pop-out menu, select whether you want the AI to be accessible only to you, to everyone who uses those plugins, or to anyone with a link. If you want to share it with anyone, select “Anyone with a link”.

Step 4: Once you’ve published or updated the custom GPT, you can now share it with anyone by sharing the custom link. It’s that simple!

Now it’s time to unleash your creativity and create your own custom GPTs. Let us know about some of your favorite creations, and we’ll be happy to showcase them.

Also keep an eye on the OpenAI GPT shop. There could be a lucrative career opportunity emerging in creating functional chatbots for those who desire them.
