Asus Vivobook S 15

The Asus Vivobook S 15 is a notable Copilot+ laptop that offers a blend of features and specifications. Let’s take a closer look at its various aspects.

**Design and Build Quality**: While it falls short of the premium feel of some Zenbook models, the Vivobook S 15 has a sleek and modern design. The lid is somewhat bendable, and there is some give in the chassis and keyboard deck, which may give the impression of less solid construction. However, it is reasonably thin and light, and its overall aesthetic is in line with many current laptops. The 16:9 display aspect ratio gives it a more old-school look compared to the more popular 16:10 or 3:2 ratios.

**Keyboard and Touchpad**: The keyboard has large keycaps and provides a comfortable typing experience, although the switches feel a bit loose and less snappy compared to some other Copilot+ laptops. The touchpad is of a decent size and its buttons are quiet.

**Connectivity and Webcam**: The Vivobook S 15 offers solid connectivity with a mix of modern and legacy ports, including USB4 and a microSD card reader. The webcam is a 1080p resolution with an infrared camera for Windows 11 Hello facial recognition. The on-board NPU is capable of handling certain Copilot+ features, but its performance in running AI tasks remains to be fully determined.

**Performance**: The specific chipset in my review unit, the Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100, is the slower model in the Snapdragon X Plus lineup. Despite this, it surprisingly performed much better than the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus with the theoretically faster chipset and was almost as fast as some Snapdragon X Elite machines. However, it was slower for gaming and creative tasks due to the slower Adreno GPU. The choice of chipset for a laptop with a large OLED display that would be appealing to those using it for photo or video editing seems odd. It’s also unclear how well the Vivobook S 15 will perform in AI tasks considering the on-board NPU’s capabilities.

**Battery Life**: In terms of battery life, the Vivobook S 15 excelled. It achieved very good battery life in web browsing and even better in video looping, and while pushing it harder led to a decrease in relative efficiency, it still performed reasonably well in demanding tasks. It also outperformed some Intel laptops in battery life, especially for web browsing and video playback.

**Display and Audio**: The OLED display on the Vivobook S 15 is of high quality, with excellent brightness, perfect blacks, and a great contrast ratio. Colors were vibrant and accurate, making it a pleasure to use for watching video. Audio, however, was just average with two downward-firing speakers, so headphones or external speakers are recommended for a better audio experience.

**Price and Value**: Priced at $1,100+, the Vivobook S 15 offers a well-equipped 15-inch laptop at a reasonable price. It’s similar in price to many other new Microsoft Copilot+ PCs and is competitive in the market. While it may not be the standout in every category, it provides a decent overall package for those who are looking for a Copilot+ laptop with a larger display.

In conclusion, the Asus Vivobook S 15 is a capable Copilot+ laptop with some strengths in performance, battery life, and display quality. However, it has areas where it could be improved, such as build quality and keyboard feel. Overall, it’s a worthy option for those considering a larger display Copilot+ laptop within a certain price range.
