mayaskMidjourney CEO David Holz announced Wednesday via Discord that the AI image generator will eventually be available to all users, not just paying subscribers, through its website.
The text-to-image generator debuted in 2022, originally running on a Discord server. The company developed and launched a website last year that replicated the functionality of the Discord bot, although it was initially reserved only for users who had generated at least 10,000 images through the bot. As of now, anyone can try Midjourney by visiting its website. You need to have a Discord or Google account to sign up.

While you can try the image generator for free, you can’t use it forever. Instead, the company offers a 25-image free trial to all users. Once you use up those freebies, you’ll have to sign up for one of Midjourney’s paid subscription packages. The $10-per-month Basic plan starts at 3.3 hours of GPU time per month and up to three simultaneous image builds, and it keeps increasing until you reach the $120-per-month Mega plan, which offers 60 hours of fast GPU time per month, unlimited hours of “relax” GPU access, and the ability to generate up to 15 images simultaneously.
