Well, well, well. It seems that Zelda indeed will engage in sword combat after all in her upcoming game, namely The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. And just as Nintendo is known to do, Zelda’s utilization of the sword and shield in Echoes of Wisdom comes with a rather intriguing twist.
A brand new trailer for Echoes of Wisdom that was released on Friday has unveiled that, in addition to her abilities to copy and bind, Zelda can also summon the power of a swordfighter. In practical terms, this ability essentially grants Zelda the sword-fighting prowess of Link. She can engage in slashing, spinning, and guarding while in the swordfighter form, but only for a limited duration.
Zelda’s primary weapon in Echoes of Wisdom is her Tri Rod. This handy tool enables the princess to make copies of objects and enemies, and then deploy those copies as “echoes” to battle against other foes, solve puzzles, and traverse Hyrule and its dungeons. Similar to recent Zelda games starring Link, such as Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, the player’s creativity and ingenuity will be crucial in resolving the princess’ problems, like dealing with those pesky mystical rifts that are tearing Hyrule apart.
Does Zelda hold even more secrets up her sleeve? We’ll all get to discover the answer when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is released for the Nintendo Switch on September 26th.
