Tony Hawk hints at insanely exciting for Pro Skater 25th anniv

Is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater making a comeback… once again? Tony Hawk won’t explicitly state, but it surely seems like something significant is afoot regarding the franchise’s 25th anniversary, according to the recent comments from the renowned professional skater himself. Hawk himself describes those developments as “insanely exciting.”

In a new episode of the YouTube channel Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meal series, host Josh Scherer inquired of Hawk what the future holds for the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise as we commemorate its silver jubilee. Hawk, who can effortlessly execute a 900 but is bound by a non-disclosure agreement that could potentially harm him if he tries to break free, responded, “I wish I could divulge more details, but I can tell you that I have been in communication with Activision once again – and this is insanely thrilling. We’re working on something. This is the first time I’ve publicly mentioned it. I can’t provide any specific details […] yet I believe it will be something that the fans will truly cherish.”

The most recent installment in the franchise was the 2020 remaster of the first two games in the Pro Skater series, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. This remaster was the final game from the series’ developer Vicarious Visions before it was integrated into Blizzard Entertainment in 2021. At one point, as per Hawk and game designer Andy Gentile, the studio was working on remastered content from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, but that work was scrapped when Vicarious joined Blizzard.

Hawk’s hint at new developments surrounding the Pro Skater franchise for its 25th anniversary follows a recent alteration to the series’ social media accounts. On Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater profiles have received fresh logos in recent weeks, transitioning from the branding associated with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2</em to a more all-encompassing THPS iconography. The Instagram account has also started promoting the 2020 remaster, based on my own observation of social media scrolling, suggesting that something significant is on the horizon for that particular entry.

The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was launched for PlayStation on September 29, 1999, so a possible reveal could be imminent. The most recent original entry in the franchise was 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, which was developed by Robomodo and highly anticipated by players and critics. Robomodo has since closed down.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Perhaps it’s a good idea to go ahead and redownload it now if you own it, just in case.
